Hairitage

by Chereen Fredericks

What is my hairitage?
I am confused you see
for so many years no nobody wanted hair like me.
They said it was to kinky, some even called it nappy,
didn't they know for this hair I was happy.
Like a Queen taking a seat upon her throne,
my hair is my crown and however I wear it's my own.
Braids tell a woven story add breads to give it glory.
Permed hair is a choice I might make,
but a natural takes me back to my birthplace.
Locks show my natural grace as spiral tendrils frame my face.
My hairitage is to vast to mention
but you've learned a lot if you paid attention.
My hair you see is just like me,
unique, lovely, beautiful, for the entire world to see.
