A Black Man Lost

by Chereen Fredericks

A Black man is lost because he knows not his place,
doesn't even know he descends from somewhere Great.
He's a King who can't proclaim his throne,
because he was ripped from his home,
leaving his birthplace and family all alone.
A million miles away his wife lay in bed beside his empty space,
remembering the look of terror and shame on his face,
as they shoved him in a boat they called it "Amistad"
that means friendship now isn't that odd??
They took him to a place where in over three hundred years
he still would not be treated equal;
not when there was such hate for his "kinda" people.
A million miles away in a foreign land
he thinks about his birthplace and his clan.
He too lay in bed remembering his wife,
wondering what ever became of her life?
She'd become mother Africa beautiful, strong, and proud but alone,
waiting for Father Africa to come back home.
