Extravaganzas 2006

by Catherinebutterfly

Parade of dignitaries
Four presidents
Fourteen senators
Leaders deemed powerful
lost common sense, or left it behind
Each one reaching out to shine.
Hung each other in the head line
Rushed out, pulled their weapons at the wrong time.
This kind of stuff messes with the mind.

Entertainers, VIP's all over the place
supposedly to see the lovely lady off to the grave.
No solemn occasion, no authentic home going of
celebration, but an
Extravaganza in full bloom
for ten thousand observers that filled the room.

Selfish and embarrassing to see
so many dignitaries fill the pulpit.
Power hungry creatures didn't know how to quit.

The political gathering
all fair game
I'll not place names.
criticizing the president,
openly, was the wrong time
couldn't they see.
tacky and disrespectful
political attack launch at the funeral
Of our Great Lady.

Not Dr. Martin Luther Kings Day or
anyone else's Day
It was Coretta Scott Kings Day.
Couldn't they have waited to have their say?

Supposed to have been a celebration
of her life, not a sound bite or a photo op.
Politicians and civil rights leaders
Couldn't they have called Bush out,
Couldn't they have called him at the White House.
But politicians took the floor
Nearly killed my faith in man-kind once more.
