Color Of Privilege

by 1st Poet

I keep saying to myself everything is going to be all right
My God's got all the power
what you see is no more than the color of privilege
Racism being fought by power of the stroke of a pen
Controlling my every day struggle being black in America
Time and time again I’m learning every Negro
who says he or she is black isn’t down
with the cause for self-determination for all
Often hiding behind a title not worth a dam
While others self-destruct selling drugs
killing off any bright mind that just might be future leaders
I often wonder can all this be by design are we really that blind
White folk been lying telling us untruths
Yet we see everyday how they promote themselves
they claim to be experts on everything
that’s the color of privilege
Redlining, white-collar crime, a president lying
