Pass It On

by Timothy Lamar Bronson

Young, creative black man listen
History is both your reward and key
Unlock the traps set by man
Recognize the adversary and let him be.

Create a shield from the shackles of time
Bear the chosen weapons of pain
See the misery of what's been lost
Share the fruits of what you've gain

Move forward and avoid looking back
Stop and listen when the message is clear
Changing times can slow the pace
Suppress the hate and make it disappear.

An upright man becomes an example
Heritage and struggle in the burdens he bears
Actions of knowledge in the lessons he learns
Gentleness shown in the way he cares.

Beware of what others think and believe
Friends and foes can wear the same face
The torch has been passed on to you
It's now up to you to continue the race.

The uphill battle is steadily moving
Martyrs and saints have wrote the song
It's up to you to continue the music
Grasp the torch and pass it on.
