Sister, Sister

by B.T. Bonner

Swift fingers curl into a tight ball
and hurl through the sky
landing black fists to sisters brown eyes
Sister runs for cover, under the cover
from her husband, her Man, her Lover
Trapped between the walls of abuse and self-esteem
Closing in on her mind like a bad dream
Screams tear through the night air
muffled by liquor breath screams from everywhere
marking the passing of a dead soul
Trapped inside the body of a man she once loved
The man that promised to Love her
The years pass and the better has turned to worse
Broken vows and hearts are the doorsteps on which he stomps
as he pulls her across the threshold
Tearing the trust from her scalp in blood soaked layers
Sister runs for her life
Sister no longer a wife
But a heavy bag waiting for his hands to get tired
Did I mention that sister has 4 children
which makes finding a job a corporate lynching
Sister, Sister is dying inside
Choking on 6 long years
filled with more tears than cheers
and more fears than years ....left
