Raindrops

by B.T. Bonner

listen carefully
when raindrops fall
they symbolize
the cleansing of the earth
nourishing fields
and replenishing oceans
its nature's waterfall
down upon the heads
of God's people
its liquid sunshine
upon your face
its a time to be quiet
and reflect on the creation
of mother earth
and all that inhabit it
it's a time for laborers
to end tireless days
and a time for children
to rest from play
its signals the coming
of a new day
and a marking of days past

Listen carefully
when raindrops fall
they tell the story of life and death
those who fought wars
and those who sought to end them
a time to remember
history's unsung heroes
that fled in the night
to avoid shackles and chains
its the passing of knowledge
to a new generation
running for shelter
for far too long
its a time to mend fences
and build bridges
a time to remember
but also a time to forget
its a time to call a cease fire
to our traffic in Mockery
and a time to march steadfast
into a brighter tomorrow
its a time to sing songs
about how beautiful
this world can be

Listen carefully
when raindrops fall
for they remind us
how small we really are
and if you listen
close enough
you just may hear God
whispering into your ear
