Deep Circles

by Beulah Gordon-Skinner

you, you talk about circles
the deep, dark circles-
circles around my eyes,
but you put 'em there
now you despise the hues,
the darkness around my eyes
you put 'em there-
when my face met your fist
so tightly clasped
I lost my breath
that's when you left
Circles
deep, dark circles
around my eyes
and you said:
give me your love
give me your love
give me your love.

you, you want me to stay at home
and yet you want me to be gone
so you wouldn't see circles-
Circles around my eyes
now you despise the hues,
the blackness around my eyes
I wanted you so desperately to go,
but I allowed you to give me more
Circles
And I kept right on:
giving you love
giving you love
giving you love.

I met your other lover
was surprised to discover
Circles
dark circles around her eyes
I asked how long the affair's been on
she replied much too long-
that's why you see the circles
deep circles surround my eyes,
but he's asked me to:
give him my love
give him my love
give him my love.

I've met someone new
now, I'm through with you
and these circles, deep circles
Circles that used to surround my eyes.
I saw you the other day
and discovered circles
Deep, dark circles around your eyes
but you put 'em there-
playing games and telling lies
How does it feel,
having hues of blackness
surround your eyes?
No longer will I:
give you my love
give you my love
give you my love.
