Beautiful Black Sista

by Stacey Barlow

I am a beautiful black sista
you can look at me and tell
that I am compared to no other
I don’t have to raise my voice,
shout or yell.

I am a dignified lady
and oh so quite thrifty
I am above the average kind
how else can a sista be?

But if you feel this sista is about
to
back down from a battle she knows
she can win
and you try to insult her intelligence
you had better feel again.

I am a beautiful black sista okay
and I deserve respect
I haven’t caused harm to anyone
that’s not in me--as of yet.

This beautiful black sista
is on te verge of breaking out
being who I am supposed to be
is what I am all about.

I can stare you in the eyes
and some men know this
not even crack a smile
that’s when I am not to be
dealt with.

I’ve been beguiled, cheated
and taken for a ride
But I’ve stood my ground
and kept my pride.

Only those who know me
think they know me well
I am a beautiful black sista
you can look at me and tell
I always walk tall
with my eyes focused
on what, you may ask?
I’m not telling--
there are people you cannot trust.

True, I’m wrong for saying such words
other words, perhaps I meant
I am a beautiful black sista
and no one can tell me
any different
