Geia's Promise

by Levi James Baldwin III

In the belly of the beast I lay.
Adrift the cold serene beauty...
of San Francisco bay.
Watching each wave...
move me further away.
>From matters of life...
love, work, and play.
Curious to watchers...
I don't fear death.
Some innocuous creature...
taking my last breath.
Like a shark...
looking for an easy meal.
Seeing my body as...
a wounded porpoise or seal.
Snatching me below...
the sea's dark blue waves.
Calling it's friends over...
for the feeding craze.
Never again to feel...
the suns tantalizing blaze.
It's all in their mind's...
like rats caught in a maze.
I'm one of geia's children...
just like the shark.
Welcome in all her elements...
mountains, seas and parks.
During day or dark as long...
as I respect the habitation.
Disrespect earth's life...
and geia's children will be waiting.
