Fallen Heroes

by Levi J. Baldwin III

WHAT does one do when their hero says...
"I'm addicted to a drug" ?
Give them a shoulder to cry on...
or end their torment with a rifle slug.

HOW does one respond when their hero asks...
for money to support their habit?
Give them the benefit of the doubt...
of verbally skin them like a rabbit.

WHEN does one confront their hero...
about stealing ones T.V. and stereo?
After the first offense is committed...
or when ones evicted into the snow.

WHO does one run to with ones troubles...
now that your only hero is gone?
Psychiatry's expensive, religion's corrupt...
an weakness gets one used like a pawn.

WHY does ones hero have to die in heart...
yet still walk amongst the living?
Philosophers say the greatest gift man...
can recieve is understanding and forgiving.

WHERE were these philosophers when MY hero...
was tumbling down from grace?
Somewhere luxurious speaking elloquently...
while I recieved lies to the face!!!
