1000 Miles

by Levi James Baldwin III

1000 miles I've traveled...
with 1000 more to go.
I've seen rain, sleet, sand...
and a blizzards worth of snow.
Harassed by country cops...
although I possess proper identification.
My crime is driving while black...
so I get a citation.
If I could have revenge...
I would take it with NO hesitation.
For poor race relations...
the punishment would be castration.
Not all law enforcement officials...
abuse the power that they own.
Yet with 1000 miles to travel...
I wish they would leave me alone.
