My Urban Brother

by Amina Asha

The sounds of drums fill the air
To an urban brothers life we once shared
Realizing that life is to short for bitterness
To all my black bros out there the power is that of forgiveness

Not letting the past cripple you like a cast
Searchin’ for revenge isn’t the task

So
    Hold
             Tight

Inhale… take in his spirit
And let it grow like grass

Amazing
               Grace…

How sweet his memories will last.
Especially at his jokes

Laughing and enjoying life
is how he spoke

Never thought about saying goodbye

So
   I
   Won’t…

I figured he would always be here
Embracing life without fear

He listened in spite of what he had on his heart
His style was ghetto
                    Street
                          Smart

So in a moment of silence………………………….

I say rest in peace to more than a friend
He was my brother to the end

One love
              To
                  My urban
                                 Brother….
Rest in Peace D.J.
