The Gods of Yesterday

by Amina Asha

I was walkin' down town
passed by a ray of urban colors
co-co, dark chocolate, sweet honey,
and almond brown
something was wrong
there was no sound...
City of the Sun but
no light
magnetic power but
no energy
Kings and Queens but
no ruler ship
My people have been sold
and bought all over again...
The beauty, the strength, the wisdom
destroyed
We've become objects in the way
roaming souls, voiceless
forgotten how to pray
through out the world
we are mocked upon
we've masked ourselves
with an image that isn't ours
speechless creatures
suffering from pure ignorance
My people have been sold
and bought all over again...
It slays my soul to see the beauty in my people
destroyed...
How trifling this looks to the man who created "US"
in his image and after his likeliness
Until then, I'll reminisce...
and pray for the light of heaven to shine through our darkness
and overwhelm us with the light of Understanding...Peace
