Don’t hate me cause you ain’t me. 
Because you’re not as…powerful as me, black as me, diverse as me, or even strong as me. 
I do believe that is why you don’t like what you see. 
You see the strength in these arms… 
You see life in these eyes. 
You just seem to find success whenever you see me. 
Just cause you’re a quitter in all you’re trying to do 
and can’t live with what you’ve become doesn’t mean that you can down me. 
So in return you see me doing well and just decide to hate me…cause you ain’t me. 
I may not be…Adam Clayton Powell, Chaka Zulu, Huey Newton, 
Nat Turner, Fredrick Douglas, George Washington Carver, 
Langston Hughes, Nelson Mandela, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, 
Ruben “Hurricane” Carter, Alex Haley, Bill Cosby, Magic Johnson, 
Colin Powell, Desmond Tutu, or yet even Jesus Christ. 
I am who I am and that is what I wanna be because these are the traits that make up me. 
Don’t look at me in bitterness and envy in all you see of me. 
From now on when you look at me…just smile and congratulate 
because no there is no need for you to hate me cause you ain’t me. 
Although we are as different as night and day; we are still the same as human beings. 
The real deal in life is us and why we fight. 
Nothing is real in the dark and all is well in the light…if you’re white. 
My skin may be dark, my image may be flawed, 
but me and my peoples’ good deeds will rise in God’s marvelous light. 
Mister Man we are different, but yet we are the same… 
We are people, we’re both created by the man upstairs, 
and he’s given us hearts with the intent for love…
the sad thing is that we don’t even use them. 
Our only difference between us is the color of our skin and that is only slight. 
God just created my skin black and hand-made your skin from scratch…white. 
Don’t ever get mad at me because I chose to use the gifts of my culture. 
Don’t hate me because of my music, my skills, my courage, 
and my will to succeed at my own goals. 
Coming to you from man to another man; 
if all that you see is the negative in me…
you might be the one that needs to take look real deep.
