The Battle She Can't Win

by Angela D. Connor

It calls her in a tone thatís so sweet
She couldnít ignore it if she tried.

But all I know, is itís tearing her apart
She steals, she cheats, she lies.

You wouldnít know she was so deeply hooked
By just looking in her eyes,

You wouldnít know it until you held her close
And heard her silent cries.

But it isnít just herself sheís hurting,
Those who love her suffer deep.

Not a day in my life passes by
that I donít feel her pain, and weep.

Sheís fought it a thousand times and failed
She just canít take that leap.

It seems the only answer
Is an eternal peaceful sleep.
