YBJane? is the pen name of Synita Mequinn Pryor. A self-described vagabond with close friends across the country from her travels, some people are surprised to learn YBJane? was born and raised in Georgia. She writes in the tradition of her inspiration, Langston Hughes, concentrating on personally relevant life experiences and particularly matters of oppression. Her favorite topics include race, gender, religion and she has recently begun exploring the topic of love more in depth. Occasionally, she emerges at spoken word sets but her passion is mostly in writing and she is admittedly extremely shy. A collection of some of her most controversial poems can be found in a chapbook self-published in late 2006 entitled how i died today. This small book with a powerful title has even more powerful messages as well as contributions from Januari Harris, Whizdom, and Rebecca Treadway - all amazing artists in their own rights. YBJane? prefers to stay away from mainstream poetry though her fans encourage a more widespread dissemination of her work.
