Naomi's Eyebrows

by James A. Wren

a few years back
to raise funds for the homeless around Shinjuku Station
super-model Naomi's eyebrows, cast
in plaster
and marketed in the lower six figures,
went on the auction block

even today
along the fashionable alleyways of Harajuku
you'll come across a browless lad and
his broadside,
pre-pubescent or just freshly plucked,
with some semblance of Naomi stenciled halfway 'cross his forehead,
acknowledging less the importance of learning charity in the home
certainly
that, and
lending credence to a couple of threadbare adages:

truth is always
stranger than fiction

a thing of beauty will inevitably remain just that
--if processions of history or aging
cheerleaders have their way--
a joke
forever

or

something of the sort.
