Grits boiled and stirred to a perfect consistency
Not too thick, yet thicker than runny
Just waiting for some butter
Diced potatoes seasoned with salt and pepper
And other secret spices
Succulently sautéed and simmered in a light oil
Freshly cut white mushrooms,
red tomatoes, and yellow onions,
ready to be omelet-ized
with some cheddar and mozzarella cheese
The scent of sliced mango and pineapple
Sweetly wafts through the air
Giving a teasing interruption of tropical tastes
The aroma of warm French bread
tempts me towards its Crackly crust and soft insides
I sip a cool, tall glass of O.J.
…My stomach growls
Instead of eating, I’m writing this poem
Wondering why you’re two hours late
For our brunch date
…Damn, the grits done got thick!
