My Lesson

by VaShon J. Brown

I have learned through my strength
That I have nothing to fear,
A spirit God hasn’t given to me anyway.
I have learned to kneel down, close my eyes,
Clear all thoughts, give reverence to my Creator and pray.
I have learned to smile
When I want to cry,
Turn my back
When I want to fight,
Walk with faith and not by sight.
I have learned that ignorance is not always bliss
And with my knowledge,
I can teach the willing not to be blind
Like those who choose not to stimulate
And use their ignorant minds.
With God’s help,
You can change your mentality…
Look around you…this is reality.
In ignorance there is no normalcy,
Truth is within your grasp,
So let go of the lies and fallacies.
I have learned that for a reason,
God gives us creativity,
Whether we write it, sing it, or say it,
Flow with it, use it and live it.
I have learned that I have a purpose for being,
Not by my own understanding, I know my life is full of
And has a genuine meaning.
Only God can teach you about you
If you are willing to learn through His guidance and grace
Because living in a world that revolves around only you
Is a miserable and lonely place.
