And her children shall RISE UP and call her blessed…
As for now, she suffers over 2000 years of labor pains
eventually birthing nation after powerful nation & civilizations corrupted
by self-hatred and indifference to her plight
Her scattered seed STINK like rotted fruit
Stewing in the underbelly of societal pressures and depression /
life lessons unlearned and replaced
by the ‘entertainment’ of iced out melodic jesters
who shuck and jive for the dimes and dollars meant for education
Her man child and wom(b)an child(ren) lost in a land
promised to the commandment keepers and peacemakers
they feed upon like the canker worm
leaving disemboweled remains to fertilize their discontent and unrest
Mama’s little baby
used to LIKE shortnin’ bread and collard greens with fat back and be GRATEFUL for good enough
when enough even was more than what they had
Instead
Mama’s babies choose to be voluntary SLAVES and fashion whores
Standing proud in midnight lines to spent rent money on that new sneaker
While the family sits home having leftover candlelit conversation for dinner
Her descendants infested with a crustacean mentality
Eagerly pulling down their brother and sister from escape
and hurling them to the fire of the modern-day auction block
for the highest bidder to slaughter for consumption
And before I be a slave I’ll be buried-
like the memory and appreciation of our predecessors
who struggled – in the struggle – for the struggle
and who died for what was just only to be granted
a three page catch all in disillusioned textbooks
that go undiscussed until the month with the least number of days
Her children – the Hallelujah children and earth angels the chosen ones -
Africa brethren that disown the mother that bore them
and wipe their feet on her broken heart
will wise up and rise up and stay up and help up their brother
and lead on like Martin and Malcolm and Moses and JESUS led… her children
And we – Africa children, her future,
God’s army will STAND UP to lay the foundation
of a purposed and BLESSED people -
