Bitter

by TW Crawford

Bitter was soft as butter
until I heard her mutter
her last man was a no good
motherfucker
She told me
she oughta
killed that fool!
Just as she slipped back into
that person she was when I first asked
her for her number
You know the down a$$ sister
with her shytt together?
Hair did,
pretty baby face
perfect
for nesting in my chest
forgetting the harshness
of unforgiveness
in that sexy sundress?
Yes,
She was a keeper
till she told me her man used to
beat her
and I never had a clue
her man looked like I do
or that I may have resembled
his mental-style
of whooping her a$$ verbally
treating her unworthy
of respect
Until she turned on me
yelling and screaming
"BE A MAN!"
What she really meant was
use my hand
and go upside her head
to put in my bid
or choke her out
till she shuts her mouth
but that's not what I'm about...
I don't know why I took it so
bad,
inside I knew she wasn't
mad
at me
I hadn't done a thing
She was just being
She
but,
Selfishly
I walked away
abandoning our plans for the day
No sense in planning picnics in the
rain
Bitter,
had too much
pain
in her brain
and if I stayed
it would've just rained
and rained.
