A Breath

Dedicated to my dear friend Wallace "Duffy" Duffin
soar...man...soar...

by Timothy W. Crawford

When the chilled wind blows across my face
and the early sun rushes to rest in the sky
I think of your words of encouragement
when I needed them most
not my dad,
but you were close.
Rest now
God knows you've seen enough pain
Rest now
I just wish I could find the words to explain
You are me.

Warriors fall and heroes fade
still your memory stays
in a laugh, a hug, a glance, a breath
eagles soar even in death
I'll hold it down for you
I do as we dreamed I would
still I wish you could
be here with me
live through me
see through me
You are me.

Warriors fall and heroes fade
Still your memory stays
in a laugh, a hug, a glance, a breath
eagles soar even in death
I haven't forgotten a word
I haven't misplaced a thought
I carry your sense of pride in
every stride,
I hold my head high
and salute you in the sky.
I've got no reason to ask why
I know time comes for us all
and when that time is mine
when death makes its call...
we'll meet again,
share a hug,
a laugh,
a glance
a...
breath
for eternity
you are me.
