I Ain't Bougie

by Tony P.

I'm truly sorry to disappoint
I ain't bougie nevertheless
I might like nice cars
Ok so what they're known as luxuries
I like them cause I've paid my dues
I drive through town not to impress
Inspiration is my objective
All from the project can obtain these things

Though I dress real sharp
With the right touch of flair
Nice suit silk shirt and tie
Doesn't make me better—just the way that I dress
Bougie I'm not-- I ain't bougie
Somewhere along the way I acquired the taste
Dressing for success is the taste that I acquired
But once in a while you'll see me in baggies

I speak as through I'm an educated man
Well silly that's because I'm graduate of college
Cum Laude am I the son of a sharecropper
Part time jobs, grants and things paid my way
No silver spoon at birth nor one of plastic
I ain't bougie bougie I am not

Intermingling with the races is not trying to adapt
It's simply a way to keep the dream alive
A man should be judge by character not skin tone
I haven't forgot who I am or where I'm from
I ain't bougie I'm still a real man
So sellout I ain't cause I ain't bougie
