What Remains of US

by T.M.

 What remains of US-A
Lengthy memoir
Of bloodshed and murder,
Bigotry and biases.
Stand stills,
Don’t fights,
And deserved to dies
Make for a very imperfect
Duet to
Hands up, Don’t Shoot
No Justice, No Peace.
And history repeats,
Meeting yet another
Incarnation of self.
She replays vignettes of
Hate, hope, and hell
As well
As one recurring lesson:
Ill seeds sown will
Uproot, overshoot, and
Carry undertow
All that is good
If you let it.
What remains of US-A
Singular question, one answer:
Will you or won’t you?
