Woke Up Early This Morning
(Just To Write A Poem)

by Tinesha Davis

Woke up early this morning
Tired of being late to work
And the bossman's threats to fire
Woke me up no smile or smirk
Hopped in the shower early
'cause this day I'm a be on time
Hopped out the tub and surely
   Hopped right into a rhyme
I said, "rhyme what ya doin'?
Gonna make me write you down."
So I grabbed some tissue paper
   And more soon hopped around
They vied for my attention
Though I asked them to just wait
But they had no understanding
Of my fate if I was late
So these little hopping things
   Grabbed me by the hands
Naked and still wet they asked
Me to write down their plans
They told me who they were
   In splendid fame and glory
Said they would not let me go
'til I'd written the whole story
But it was o.k. - I woke up early
So I still had time no doubt
I'll just skip breakfast and write
'til I on penned this whole thing out
They had no patience - just a hopping
   And for me no sympathy
Said if I did not get it then and there
They would not return to me
And so we battled, drug, and trudged
   To our destination
And by this time I was captivated
   And had no hesitation
Lost track of time chatting with hopping rhymes
   Who just refused to wait?
Woke up early - but peeped the clock
I was half and hour late
Threw on my Hanes and placed the blame
   On these little hopping heathens
And if my boss is not too crossed
   Tomorrow I'll be prepared
And wake up earlier even.
