Niggas Always Made Good Soldiers

by Tinesha Davis

They promising us freedom if we do our part
And help them finish the wars that they start

So bring on the muskets and bring on the Reds
Talking 'bout the war where Crispus Attucks bled
Fight long and hard 'til the queen lets them go
When they're released - us they'll free - both ways we win so
Ain't looking for honors or medal accommodations
Just looking for a way to get off the plantation
So if the man says kill and the man says fight
Niggas gonna do it - 'long as the enemy is white
Gonna fight in the east and 'til the west sets the sun
And 'til the reds all fall dead ain't no Nigga gonna run

Unless your name is Kunta - Turner - Vessy
But dey some rebellious Niggas anyway

They promising us freedom if we do our part
And help them finish the wars that they start

Use to taking orders - no suh and yes ma'am
Simmering while grinning - protecting Miss Ann
Taking so much 'til the blood begins to boil
The liver begins to quiver the eyes begin to spoil
With the vision of Miss Ann's strangulation
But heck, anything to stay off the plantation
Take war any day over Massas backlashes
Will chore any way so rather grab the hatchets
Nigga ditch diggers - the way to kingdom come
'cause a Nigga can't hide and a Nigga can't run

Unless your name is Aaron or Robinson
but they come from a tribe of athletic Niggas anyway

They promising us freedom if we do our part
And help them finish the wars that they start

Found a yellow man to battle found a yellow man to slay
Found a black man to addle 'cause yellow man ain't never say
"Nigga do this", and "Nigga do that";
"Nigga you ain't nothing so Nigga get back"
'cause when whitey knew he would die and he knew he would fail
he made Nigga go and threatened him with jail
Knew Nigga ain't want to go to that ol' steel plantation
And become a member of the general population
A nigga knows he's outnumbered and he knows he's outgunned
So what's a Nigga to do? Run Nigga run

     Unless your name is Ali
But then again he ain't yo average Nigga anyway

They promising us freedom if we do our part
And help them finish the wars that they start

Know Niggas are a dying breed so they try to explore
A Nigga's lasting need of knowledge so they lure
Niggas with a so called Montgomery G. I. Bill
A promise of money for a promise to kill
Knew Nigga wanted freedom that comes through education
Even if it meant four years on the plantation (oops - university)
Studying in shackles - gonna get what he earned
Gotta keep Niggas Niggas what they say he will learn
Give scholarships to him - his kin and anyone
Who will kill at their will and run when they say run

     Unless your name is...
