We are killing our forest and the ozone's depleting;
Riots in LA prove our history's repeating;
Scientist and psychics say our world's through;
Throw my head back and laugh is just what I do.
You may say I don't care, my environmental awareness is inane...
But do you use the non-pollutant products I like,
Have you read the letters I write,
Do you observe your own actions before calling me insane...
Not a day passes where thousands don't die;
We live where crime is at an all time high;
And wherever we may go evil will lurk;
I just tilt my head and openly smirk.
You may say I'm inept, don't know when to be serious...
But have you witnessed all my lost,
Have you paid my painful cost,
To me coping is pretending life is hilarious...
When my once beloved abandons me and his son;
Who got kicked out of school for having a gun;
And my job lets me go saying I'm not worthwhile;
I just carry on and never once lose my smile.
You may say I'm never earnest, laugh without reason's what you decide...
But my sorrows do you know,
Have you heard my anguished woe,
That can drive me to thoughts of suicide...
Yes I laugh - long and hard - but not in mockery;
In the church or funeral home still comes as a shock to me;
For it's hard living in a world where everything is dying;
So just to survive - I laugh to revive - and keep myself from crying.
