If I Said I Love You

by Tinesha Davis

START OF WORK

If I said "I love you" what would my reasons be?
'Cause its easy to find when your searching blind down a road called lonely
with your heart stitched on your shirt and your name stitched on your sleeve
so that those who pass you by can tell just how you can be deceived.

If I told you "you are my bestfriend" what would that be based on?
When I meet you in the summer and by autumn you will be gone,
and with you - you'll take my secrets and my deepest longings.
Bestfriend you were so I entrusted my heart along with all this.

If I confessed "I need you" how would you take it?
Would you confuse need for desperation and take my worth to shake it?
Sit and tell me what you would think and just what you would do.
Then I will know my reasons if I said "I love you."
