Ordinary Times

by Yvonne D. Tann

I remember when I was young
Life was easy, simple
Growing up was fun
People laughed more and had more
Reasons to smile
Hardships were felt every once in a while
Families were poor, but strong love was enough
Families stayed together when times got rough
You made do with just what you had
Your clothes today would be considered rags
Neighbors helped neighbors when they fell on
Hard times, they pulled together cause they knew
You were trying
I’d give anything for ordinary times
When people said what they meant and spoke
Their minds
But unfortunately these aren’t ordinary times.
