Who Am I

by Adrienne Strachn

I am a Beautiful Black Woman of Cocoa, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Pecan, Chocolate Complexion
I'm also a Tall, Skinny, on the heavy side, Short, Pleasingly plump Woman.
Long-legged, Big Thighed, Flat-chested, or Big-breasted.
Perhaps I am a Short Hair, Long Hair, Permed, Dread, Natural Woman,
or no hair at all sister. Whatever,
I'm just simply a beautiful Black woman.
Had your babies, lost some too.
Took care of you when you were unemployed,
took care of our kids while you hung out.
put up with your attitudes and other things too.
Do you remember, Do you remember?
I could have left many times, but
I kept things in order for our family. For us
Intelligent, Educated, College Grad
Career Woman, Sister with a GED It really doesn't matter
You still deserve the respect of being a WOMAN.
What do you see when you look in that mirror?
What about you? Do you ever say WHO AM I?
