Louis Armstrong Jazz Horn

by Samuel Black

Louis Daniel Armstrong
His jazz music came in with a bang
He blazed a trail with King Oliver's Band
From New Orleans to New York music he unveiled
Inspired and elevated audiences with his songs

He was called by many as Satchmo
A singing "Hello Dolly" voice always on the go
While making melodies blowing his cornet horn
"Porgy and Bess" could remove any side thorn
"What A Wonderful World" was his norm

"Good Morning Vietnam" has his song
If only his mom Mayann Armstrong could see his plan
Sweet Lil Hardin-Armstrong had his hand
All the way he was the leader of the band
To Ella, The Duke, Tony and Dizzy he was the man

Airport now in his name
Star on Hollywood walk of fame
State Department World Tours on many airplanes
Ambassador of Goodwill was not a musical game
Playing his trumpet and soothing royalties was his aim

United States Postal Stamps in his honor
Many nations flying his banner
His All-Star Band playing in a dignified manner
Queens College holding many rights
Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong- he was alright!
