Your Fire

by Soyini Denise Liburd

It is only loneliness
Not you, in yourself
But the distraction you provide
from me in mine.

Chinese Water Torture
Hearing every rhythmic breath,
Knowing every tear, by name.
Is akin to me and myself
Bound together.
I am claustrophobic.

I think of you,
Try to visualize your essence
Your form shifts,
Your face changes…
The only certainness
Is that my loneliness
Fears the fire
In your eyes.

It is only loneliness,
I should not be afraid,
Yet I am terrified
Of the dark.
I long for
Your fire.
