Tell Me A Story

by Soyini Denise Liburd

Your voice defines mystery,
Tells a tale: wise and beautiful
in a language strange to me.
I only want to close my eyes and listen
Shut the windows to my world
So that there is only your voice
… and my soul
An unlikely pair - maybe
But truly
You sing to me
And your tone tells a story
Softer than the words that restrain me.
Does your truth lie?
Or is the lie only in the things I think I perceive.
In your words is sanity -
In your voice lies a madness
That consistently masks reality from me.
Help me.
I need to respire reality
Else in disgust, my Strength will pack up and leave me.
Help me.
Your voice distracts me
I can't hear what you say.
I need to hear your words
So that I can believe.
