Scrub Story

by Soyini Denise Liburd

I loved a scrub,
Same old stroy,
Scrub entered, scrub left
and in between, scrub used me
I want y'all to know
What happened to this College girl
Who was dumb enough to give her whole world
Her mind, her soul, her body
And - of course - all her money...

It wasn't always that way
At first there were the days
When he took me to all the places,
New lovers would go
Then he took me through all the paces,
Of his little show
The next thing I know
I'm payin'
When he's needin'
A little money
"An emergency"
He's sayin'
And he's feedin'
While I'm playin'
That it ain't happening to me
"I'm smart, I would know - I would see"
I'm telling me -
As I'm sellin me - for free

My doubts are yellin,
But I ain't listening - they can't be true
It would mean I'm a fool -
And too naive to see through
The lies of this creep.
He's in between jobs, that's all it is
Weird, with all the papers he's got
He does seem to be home a whole lot
But he's tryin' to get a job
Not just lyin' on his butt
Hmmm..., sexy butt he's got,
It's hard when I see it
To remember what the lecture was all about
Only remember cravin' for the taste of his mouth
It's not his fault his money ran out
Besides, he wants to go to College
and further his education
I've just got to be patient
Through this tryin' situation

In the end he's real mean
And he doesn't wanna be seen
With me, his 'soul-mate'
"Move along baby. New girl's taken the bait"
No choice now but to see
That he was lyin from the start
Nothing left now, but a broken heart
I took a moment to reflect
And it became clear finally
I knocked him for not having a job
When all the time, his job was me.
