You Say You Lovve Me

by Soyini Denise Liburd

You say you lovve me,
But what is your love then?
When ...
It's not strong enough to move you
Can you learn to love like I do?
Or am I just turning in the mud
waiting for change
Thinking I'm stopping the grass growing
underneath my feet
When we meet,
I feel it: flowing words, emotions, feelings
I don't doubt these things, I see it.
But what is your love then?
A glimmer of hope,
unable to light my fire?
Quiet suppression?
Frustrating desire?
I want a true love,
As mine is true.
You can't learn to love as I do.
I've learned that.
Now I've only to learn to let go
of your flowing words, emotions, feelings.
Suppress my spinning
Reaching
out instead for love that doesn't lay dead
next to the life of my own.
So hard (this lesson to learn)
