Our Dream Is Gone

by Soyini Liburd

What is my love without you to share it with?
A burden, clamped unrelenting about my soul...
Dripping, anguish covered tears;
wet salt stains searing sadness across my open wounds
singeing shadows of myself that craved for you.
Don't cry. You drown your eyes and now I can't see in
them that you
understand me.
Reach me in my pain and tell me only that you
understand.
If I had that I could find solace,
though your love slipped beyond my waiting arms

Do you understand how I feel?
why I love you, why I did it
why I love you still, though I did it
for us - though we both cry - for the best. Right?
only, what is my love now - one hand clapping
dull empty sound ... heavy on my heart
on your eyes pulling down that smile that I found
again
now lost in the tears in your eyes
Do you understand?

Will I ever touch you again - My dream?
My dream for "us" suddenly lost,
homeless, flailing in the wind
beaten down by a wet salt storm of tears.
My dream - I kept you in that special place.
You were our dream.
Now you have no home...
because I have no one to be my beloved
...and cherish "our dream".
There is no us.
No one. No love.
For the best. Right?
Do you understand?

There is night on our love.
There is no star across the black velvet.
Mourning with wet salt tears though the black lace
that hides my love for you.
There is no morning.
Does it matter that it was right
or wrong?
All that it means.
Is that our dream is gone.
