Vices of a Superwoman

by Shawnta Cannon

She is but a woman
though designed by Divine
with an inquisitive and creative
powerful mind.
A nature to please
all but herself
too proud, at times,
to ask for another's help.
She is but a woman.

Nobody knew of her pain
or felt the dankness of her rain
that came down as tears
on brown face.
A broken heart. A broken home.
Weighed down shoulders.
An unfulfilled own.
Seemingly perfect to the outside world
living with no ordinary fret
viewed as a wonder girl.
She is but a woman.

With have and have nots
equipped to feel joy or disgust
To embody an image,
she found it a must.
While a weakness inside,
if not dealt,
can engulf even the strongest self.
For no matter how super
she claims to be,
she is only human.
She is but a woman.
