My People...My People...

by Sapphire

My people, My people what do we see
A life of strife, destitution, and misery
No, we are mighty, We are Queens and Kings
To be remembered as the first people to do magnificent things
So why is it that the roads and paths that we often choose
Even though we know what's right we choose to lose
We have no support systems, no understanding
So little things in life seem so demanding
When our bodies have nothing left to give
The life some of our friends and family live
Grandmas, grandpas, uncles, aunts, brothers, and mothers
For some of us it's even our lovers
Why can't we open up and find identity
Put our lives under microscopes for scrutiny
To right what's been wronged and what's wrong make right
My people, my people what do we see
A life of hatred, unfairness, and our people angry
No we are mighty people, Queens and Kings
To be remembered as the first people to do magnificent things
So why can't we hold our heads up high
Is it because of jealousy or envy in another's eyes
But outside our Princesses are having baby girls
Out on drugs with not a care in the world
Our Princes have no knowledge of the power within
But with no knowledge how and where do they begin
We've been blinded for generations, decades, ages
So our minds have been stripped and stored in cages
My people, my people we need to unite
My people, my people we need to fight
Fight for our lost minds
Fight for our lost souls
Fight for our lost loved ones
set up major goals
Ones we can accomplish not to high not to low
That way as we learn our minds and bodies can grow
My people, my people, what do we see
A life of gratitude, unity, and harmony
Yes, we are mighty, we are Queens and Kings
To be remembered as the first people to do magnificent things
My people, my people what do we see
No more degradation, our lives restored and we're all happy
Yes we are mighty, we are Queens and Kings
Now known to all and remembered
as the first people to do magnificent things
