Sow in Early Spring Dear Brother

by Charletha

Sow in early Spring dear brother,
Sow in early Spring,

How strong is the urge to grow in Spring!
When the Earth is a full moon fertile
and the fruits are restless in their shell
both seed and land are waiting for you

to sow your seeds in early Spring
and watch them crown a field with beauty
lovely enough to invite the angels down.

The ground is ripe for African daisies,
both white and yellow the flowers bloom.
See the Sun in the snow where it does not melt away
See gold enveloped in ivory no living thing wants

but perhaps the honeybees and wasps roaming.

There are two shapes of seeds for you to choose,
the flowers produce them both
from California to the Florida Key
across the southwest on a trail sweetening air

grow white with yellow and yellow with white
and the orange to fire a ring around them
for when the African daisies come together
their blossoms are all the more hardy

Grow something beautiful that smells of strength
for the winter is always coming.
