Missed Opportunities

by Robert Marshall

You stare into a screen instead of glancing into my soul

You clinch onto your purse instead of seeking a hand to hold

I am human just like you and we are passengers in this life

Being misunderstood in this world cuts much deeper than a knife

The tattoos on my skin are an expression and not a threat

Reminding me of lessons that I would otherwise forget

Do not box me in but instead explore the essence of me

My outer shell does not define where I have been or who I can be

Ignore the internet and TV because they will lead your mind astray

Making you believe that I am otherwise of what I try to convey

So when you see me walking down the street do not pass

Stop, say hello, and smile because this life is over fast
