I Pledge Allegiance To Myself

by Rain

My perception of reality
is a little different from yours.
I had two strikes against me
the day I was born.
This society is so hung up on color,
makes it hard on a sister or a brother.
My skin may be as dark as can be,
but, does this dimish who I am,
or deplete my hopes and dreams?
When I go for a job,
and you interview me.
it doesn't matter whatI scored on my SAT,
or I went to college and got my PHD.
You'll always judge me
by the color of my skin,
and think less of me than I really am.
Racial discrimination have opened my eyes.
the deep root of intolerance,
means "racism is still alive."
