Mixed Heritage

by Rain

Seditious, humorous and perceptive
dealing with life of a biracial heritage.
Many children of a mixed heritage
share diverse feelings of confusion and frustration.
Being of mixed heritage is not the problem,
a negative experience such as prejudice,
causes uncertainty to the child of a biracial couple.
They feel trapped between two worlds,
his father is black married to a Chinese girl.
A person's ethnicity is determined
from the amount of blood in their veins,
Society's idea about race makes no sense to me.
East Indian mother and Italian father,
Filipino mother and Jamaican father,
Spanish father and Irish mother,
Black father and White mother.
Education, religion, beans and rice,
curry vs. pasta, fried chicken vs. fried rice...
now I pronounce you man and wife!
