Dying on National Television

by Rain

Thank God, Hurricane Katrina has finally passed.
Now the people of Louisiana and Mississippi
can start rebuilding their lives.
I have a concern, perhaps some of you too,
Why were only poor black people shown on TV?
Many of the people they showed, were poor black, and low income.
"Why didn't the people evacuate their homes?"
Everyone watching wanted to know.
In case you couldn't see the reality of it all,
Many of these people were poor, on welfare and unemployed,
Living under the poverty level in a city that's now under water!
There were no options as to where they could go.
Perhaps if circumstances had been different
You would not have seen us dying on national television!
