We Reversed Our Struggle

by Queen Unique

We went from kings to baby daddies

Making love in castles to the back of caddies

We went from wives to baby mothers

From leaders to street hustlers

It's like John Brown fought for nothing

We just reversed our struggle

We went from brothas to niggas

From sistas to bitches

From room mates to cell mates

And from team mates to snitches

Rosa may as well got up and lost her seat

Because the dream is now a nightmare of Martin Luther King

We went from African black pride

To American white lies

Half of us don't know our leaders

Where or why they died

We reversed our struggle

Left our afros and ethnic souls

Our roots were virgin

Now plastic surgeons

Is all that we know

Went from happy to be nappy

Now we yearn to perm

After all Sojourner taught us

Not a thing we've learned

Forgot the red, green and black

To see the red, white and blue

But we can still redeem ourselves

The power lies in me and you
