(the boy with the worried eyes)

by Sandra Proto

I sit reading Sonia Sanchez
Tranquility peers over my shoulders

I look towards the boy with the worried eyes
His head sinks into the adversity of a dark blue hoodie

Cacophony aspirates the stillness
Skid marks flog the dull asphalt
Blind-standers whisper

The boy with the worried eyes
Lays on his garbage strewn bed
Dreaming about what tomorrow should have been
