If Mexicans are born in Mexico
And Japanese in Japan
Then how did African-Americans become the name that I must land
I wasn't born in Africa
Therefore I'm not African-American
I'm just a black sistah in america who is afrocentric
I'm not African
Though I'd like to see the beauty of it all
I'm not African
Even though afrocentricity is not a downfall
I'm black
That's it
I was born in America
So if anything I guess I am a Black-American
See calling us African-American is the way they try to keep us in our place
But I will never put that on a job application because that isn't my race
I am black and I am proud of my race
And I'm not putting people of African decent don't
It simply isn't my place
I love my people
But for me to say that I am African
Is the eqivalent to calling a Puerto-Rican
Mexican
I know you feel me now
Cause you know the effects of that shyt
They'll start speaking languages I don't think they understand
But my points made I'm not african american
I'm just black
And I wish that the government would give my race back
