My Version of "Imitation of Life"

by Piscez

She lost her daughter at a very young age
Simply because the girl "got grown" and ran astray
It took her so long to return home
That her mama said "forget it let her roam"
That mama, the one that did everything she could
Simply thought she'd just put her out of mind, this she would
She went about her day's work and never thought
of that lost child and her foolish ways
Because we know a disobedient child won't live half it's days
So up and out of the blue, ol' girl suddenly knew
that it was time for her to return
And hookin' and crookin' was no longer a concern
Finally there would be no more waiting
This would be such a celebration
To get back to mama she did what she had to do
But what she forgot is karma comes back to you
For when she returned it shocked her to see
And this was something she just could not believe:
mama was gone, gone on to be with the Lord
And the pain hurt that gitl like a double-edged sword
