Pierre L. Sutton Jr. is one of our most exciting and most accomplished returning authors. Sutton currently serves as chairman of The National Juneteenth Poetry Commission (www.juneteenth.us) and has received numerous awards for his poetry, including the certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from U.S. Representative Jesse L. Jackson Jr. in 2002. In 2003, Sutton hit the speaking circuit, touring the Chicagoland and suburban school districts performing a one man show titled, "The Langston Hughes Centennial Tribute" that consisted of Sutton reciting the poetry of Hughes and lecturing on Hughes' life and the significance of his work. On June 19, 2003 Sutton recited his poem titled, "June 19th…" at the 4th Annual National Juneteenth Rally in the Manfield Room of the US Capital for members of Congress, the Congressional Black Caucus, the Senate and the general public. Sutton is also one of the founders of Power2image, a company that he along with author/lecturer Kevin Reeves and artist extraordinaire DeAngelo Haywood founded in order to promote literature and art. Sutton's much-anticipated second book of poetry entitled, Genius Child, (www.power2image.com/genius.htm), is due to hit bookshelves in September 2003.
