My Beauty

by PhauxShaux

You may say:
Too short,
Too nappy!
‘Rockin' my 'fro
is makin' me happy,
proud!
Thank heavens,
I’m lookin' more like Florida
than Linda---Evans!
Arie sang it PhauxTru' in her anthem
"I Am Not My Hair"…
My beauty was not lost like the power of Samson,
when the blades hit my waves
and my locks hit the floor.
Once livin' the lye,
now I'm livin' PhauxShaux!
My definition of beauty
does not fly in the breeze,
threads of dead follicles
or store bought weaves
from Chinese or Koreans.
Please…
I'm not hatin'
Or debatin',
Only bein'
Me and
Sometimes,
That's a Sisyphean task.
On beauty
I Don't Ask
Anyone to see
Like minded.
There was a time that
It was minded
To have thick lips,
Wide hips
Or be big behinded.
Now sistas from otha mistas
Wish to
Consult surgeons
Urgin'
For
African pride once cast aside.
My beauty ain't a role,
Can't be bought or sold:
It is flows filling my head,
Love I spread,
Tears I shed,
Passion and compassion
Unbridled, unrationed.
